PostSecret ...

Frank Warren initially started this as an interactive art piece. PostSecret is a blog in which people anonymously submit their secrets on handmade 4 x 6 inch postcards via snail mail. Although some of the submissions are very humorous, others are very sad and some politically incorrect. Not only does the work evoke strong sentiments or even memories from the audience, but it also provides an outlet for those that feel the need to free themselves from their secrets. New secrets are posted every Sunday.

IRAK...

Abercrombie & Fitch, Ralph Lauren, J Crew, Banana Republic, etc. are selling a fabricated-fantasy lifestyle, but IRAK lives the life that they are selling. In 1997 Earsnot started IRAK , a tightly knit shoplifting graffiti crew with about 50 members. Today some of the members include many of downtown New York's art elite. Last December Earsnot launched a website where the crew, “expresses their 2 cents on current events” and sells products that they create expressly for the site. Presently, options include shirts and swewatshirts, that say "IRAK," "Shoplifting is Not a Crime" and "derels" (short for derelict, everyone is a derel). The blog is funny, a bit offensive, but, refreshingly, really to the point.

Nomis triumphant in Soccer International's Boot Test 2006..

Two of Nomis’ most popular boot designs have come out on top in this year’s Soccer International Magazine Boot Test, beating big name brand competitors including adidas, Nike, Puma, Reebok and Umbro.

Coming out in the number one spot with a perfect score in each of the five Boot Test categories was the Nomis Wet Control Glove. Following closely behind in second place was the Nomis Spark Blue Wave Firm Ground boot.

Both Nomis boots scored top marks for the three all-important performance related categories: “touch/feel”; “comfort”; and “stability/manoeuvrability”. They also received perfect scores for the “value for money” category. The only category where The Spark didn’t receive full marks was “aesthetics”, where the boot still managed a healthy score of four out of five.

Soccer International’s Boot Test panel was made up of former NSL players Bill Damianos, Steve Iosifidis, Steve Karavitakis, Con Anthopoulos, Lev Osman and former Socceroo striker Joe Spiteri. The highly qualified and experienced team put each of the 34 test boot candidates through their paces, testing and rating them to see if the manufacturers’ boot claims lived up to their reality.

Steve Losifidis was particularly impressed by the Nomis Glove: "By far the best boot I've ever come across. The complete package."

Bill Damianos particularly enjoyed the comfort level provided by the Nomis Spark: "Not one blister either at training or at a game. Extremely comfortable." Con Anthopoulous agreed with Damianos: "The most comfortable boot I have ever worn. Incredible comfort."

It is a fantastic achievement for a new brand such as Nomis to be receiving such high praise from seasoned professionals, particularly against such well-established brands such as adidas and Nike. Notably, neither the adidas Predator Absolute nor the adidas Predator Absolion achieved top marks in any of the ratings categories. Tying for third place in the Boot Test were the Andreas Futura and the Lotto Sadio, followed by the Hummel Villa Park.

The boots included in the Boot Test were: adidas Predator Absolute; adidas Predator Absolion; adidas 7406; Andreas Italia; Andreas Futura; Umbro XAI IV Premier; Diadora Brasil; Diadora Totti 10 Pro; Errea Super Top; Errea Prima Top; Hummel 6.2 Concept Gold; Hummel 4.2 Concept; Hummel Villa Park; Kelme Victor 18; Kelme Milennia II; Kelme Euro Evo; Lotto Sheva 7 Extreme; Lotto Stadio; Lotto Vento KL; Lotto Vertigo; Lotto Zhero + FG-3F; Nike Air Legend; Nike Air Zoom Total 90 III; Nike Mercurial Vapor III; Nomis The Spark Wave FG; Nomis Wet Control Glove; Puma King; Puma Konstrukt Gci; Puma v1.06 I FG; Reebok Integrity Campana; Reebok Match Ready; Reebok StrikeZone; Uhlsport 11 P.Nedved; Umbro X Boot ll-R.

Toyota aiming for victory (again)...

The Panasonic Toyota Racing team has launched its new TF107 and hopes that this will be the car to give it is first victory in Formula 1. The car will be driven by Jarno Trulli and Ralf Schumacher.

"We announced that a year ago, but we failed to succeed in 2006," said the team's chairman Tsutomu Tomita. "Therefore we want to repeat that challenge in 2007. I know all the other teams are working very hard, particularly the top three. We have five years experience in F1, but still we are young in comparison with the top teams, therefore we have to be modest about it. But we would like to challenge them."

The new car benefits from the lessons learned in 2006

"We have addressed reliability this year," said John Howett, the team president. "And we have resolved issues like the launch system, which we fixed at the end of last season, and which cost us dearly. We're improving the car, flat out, all the time. So I think we have the potential to win this year."

A completely new car, with no carry over from the TF106 or the TF106B, the new machine has an engine which is further forward in the car with a longer gearbox, featuring a seamless shift system for the first time. The car is actually higher than previous models but has better aerodynamic figures.

The car has been produced by the team under Noritoshi Arai, who is the team's director of technical co-ordination. He reports to Toyota in Japan and is responsible for liaison between the Motor Sport Division in Higashifuji and the factory in Cologne. The chassis division of the team is headed by former tyre man Pascal Vasselon while the engines are overseen by Luca Marmorini.

Arai has been with the motorsport division since 1990 and worked on the Toyota Le Mans project in 1991 and 1992 and then moved on the company's GT activities. After a spell in passenger cars he returned to racing in 2002.

More details of Singapore plans..

Details of the planned street circuit in Singapore are now beginning to leak out with the route proposed by Hermann Tilke. It will run through the parkland of the Civic District and around the Suntec City area, where there are a number of big hotels. The aim is to portray the city in as flattering a light as possible and thus the 2.5-mile track will run close to the City Hall, the Victoria Memorial Hall, the Raffles Hotel and the giant Ferris wheel called the Singapore Flyer. The key factor is that the plan seems to include the provision that it will be a night race - the first of its kind on a street circuit. This will help to fit in with the TV schedules in Europe and America and will reduce the amount of disruption for the busy city. Most of the area chosen has access from the Metro and rail networks.

McLaren launches the MP4-22...

Vodafone McLaren Mercedes race drivers Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton will drive through the streets of Valencia in their Formula 1 cars later today to mark the start of an exciting new era for the team. The event heralds the launch of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team. There are expected to be crowds of 150,000 or more on the circuit which has been laid out around the Ciudad de las Artes y de las Ciencias. The two men will be at the wheels of a pair of MP4-21s. After the demonstration runs the MP4-22 will be launched.

Work on the MP4-22 started before the launch of the MP4-21 and aerodynamic work began in May.

"Inevitably people can look at our performance last season and be able to criticise us," said the team's Martin Whitmarsh. "And frankly, we didn't do a good enough job. My feeling, having been at this point of the season on many occasions before, is highly optimistic for 2007. We are devoid of the tyre competition that we have had in recent years; however we are very happy with our relationship with Bridgestone and their technical approach. We have been working hard on the engineering package and believe we have made good progress to improve our performance."

Inside the new Ferrari F2007..

Scuderia Ferrari (significantly no longer Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro) kicked off the new season with the launch of its new car, codenamed the 658 within Ferrari, but racing as the F2007. Rather than unveiling the car the team issued only a few carefully-chosen photographs, notably nothing from the rear end, presumably because there are aerodynamic solutions that the team is keen to keep under wraps for as long as possible. In the modern world of F1 new ideas are quickly in rival windtunnels and on the cars and so every day that secret is kept is a day in which the team has an advantage. Given the fact that some of the teams intend to have new aero packages before the start of the year, the launches are really only of commercial interest as the chassis are not only very similar to one another but also not necessarily the cars that will be raced.

According to the team the new car is significantly different to the 248 F1. The design was revised to accommodate a new front suspension that represents a major conceptual innovation, mainly in terms of aerodynamics. The shape of the side-pods and their openings are also revised, based on modifications to the cooling system, which also implies exits for the radiators on the upper part of the bodywork, while the engine air intake is also substantially different. The car has a longer wheelbase than its predecessor. The rear of the car is much narrower, taking advantage of the more sculpted shape of the gearbox housing, which again this year is made from carbon fibre. The gearbox itself, which is still mounted longitudinally, is fitted with an innovative quick-shift system (seven gears plus reverse). The rear suspension is similar to that on the 248 F1, but the teams says that it is planning a significant development programme based on knowledge that has been gained working with the 2007 tyres.

The car features no tobacco branding although the white lines where Marlboro used to be are, no doubt, intended to maintain the image built up since the team's Marlboro sponsorship began. Vodafone has been replaced by Alice, the Italian broadband company.

The new BMW F1.07

The new BMW Sauber F1.07 has been unveiled in Valencia this morning with the Hinwil-based team keen to score regular podium finishes in F1 this year.

"In 2006 we exceeded our own targets," said BMW's Dr Mario Thiessen. "Now expectations are rising faster than the team can develop. That?s the punishment for excelling yourself. Two thousand and seven marks the second and final year of our development phase. Our aim is to make it onto the podium on our own merit. If the leading teams show any sign of weakness, we want to be ready to breach the gap. Victories on our own merit are not yet a realistic prospect for 2007. We are aiming for that in 2008. In 2009 we want to be in contention for the World Championship title.

The team has a strong driver line-up in Nick Heidfeld, Robert Kubica, Sebastian Vettel and Timo Glock.

"Nick is our experienced man," said Theissen. "He is fast and reliable, and has the know-how to take the team forward. All that makes him a firm fixture and an important reference point for the technicians and the other drivers. Robert has already proved how fast he is, and he will catch up on the experience front. The two of them work well together and engage in healthy competition out on the track. As for Sebastian, we will be giving him the opportunity to drive on Fridays as well. He will learn from the other two. We will be further supported by Timo, who is not only fast but has also built up a great deal of experience already."

The team is expanding all the time with the plan being to have 430 staff by the end of the season and a new building in Hinwil to allow the team to expand. The team, which also has 300 people in Munich, will then be one of the biggest in F1.

5 Reasons Why the iPhone “Sucks”..

I gives five reasons as to why Apple’s upcoming iPhone will “suck”. Do you agree? Read the list after the jump.
With all the adoring praise being heaped on Apple’s iPhone, it’s about time someone starting noticing its flaws

1. 2-megapixel camera: when others have 5-megapixel shooters on board

2.5-hour talk time: not enough battery life

3. No expansion slot: Go for the 8-gig model and that’s it.

4. No 3G: EDGE is so last year

5. No removable battery: You mean we can’t take along a spare battery? WTF?

New Kit For Tigers..

The Malaysian national team was presented with a new kit by new sponsors Nike in a glittering ceremony held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre tonight.

The new jerseys from the foremost sporting equipment manufacturers will make its debut when the Malaysian national team takes part in the Asean Football Championship next week in Bangkok.

The new colour is a throwback to the kit used by Malaysian national team of the 1920s while the away colour is a reflection of the colours of the Malaysian flag.

What will give further distinction to the new Malaysian kit is also the representation of the Malay ‘keris’ at the bottom left corner of each shirt.

“We give our gratitude to Nike for making this partnership a reality,” said Dato’ Redzuan Tan Sri Sheikh Ahmad, the deputy president of the FA of Malaysia (FAM) at the official launch.

“But this cooperation will not only be about Nike being our new sponsors for the national team jerseys but also part of a new plan to usher in a new era in Malaysian football.

“With their extensive links in Europe and elsewhere, we hope that we can integrate Nike’s technical ability to the success of the Road Map which will be unveiled soon by the FAM. So it is a win-win situation where FAM is looking to more than just the sale of national team shirts.”

For Tim Parkinson, the Marketing Director, Nike Southeast Asia, the partnership with the national body has been akin to a synergy where both parties can attain mutual benefit.

Parkinson said that through this new cooperation, Nike will be servicing and supplying the FAM all equipments including those for the Academy boys and where it is hope that it will get young players motivated to play in the new national colours.

“What Nike knows is the taste of success and really following our work in Brazil, Portugal and France, there is no secret to success,” added Parkinson.

“All that young players’ need is inspiration and self-belief and through this partnership, we hope that we can provide just that.

“I hope that we can help the Malaysian Tigers regain the roar of yesteryears.”

The deal with Nike is for four years with the option to extend for five more.
